If you think geese are just noisy and annoying birds, think again. A viral video shows how a brave goose saves its friends from a hungry bald eagle in a farm backyard.
The video captures the dramatic moment when an eagle swoops in to try and catch some poultry for its dinner. But it doesn’t realize that there is a heroic protector around — a goose!

The white goose, which seems to be the leader of the flock, angrily chases the eagle away from its friends (chickens and other geese) and doesn’t stop until it leaves. The goose honks loudly and flaps its wings, impressively showing no fear of the much larger and stronger predator that could probably kill the goose if it gave it a second thought. Mission accomplished: the goose has saved its friends.
The video is a great reminder that animals have special roles and connections with one another, behaviors that often surprise and inspire us. Geese are known to be very social and protective of their mates and offspring, and they can also form strong bonds with other animals, including humans. In fact, they can show some serious bravery when they need to.
Geese and Their Bravery
Geese are not only noisy and annoying, but it’s in their nature to be extremely brave. They will often face down cows and horses, especially in a farm context, thinking they are defending their flock and territory. That being said, this poultry-fueled courage can sometimes backfire, as geese are relatively fragile birds, and videos of horses kicking geese that get a little too bold are all too prevalent online.
Many people are afraid of geese because of their loud honking, biting, and chasing behavior. The fear of geese is called khenphobia or anatidaephobia (the fear that you might be being watched by a duck).
