4. Hanging Rock State Park, Danbury

For those looking to swim, the Badin Swim Area features sandy beaches and designated swimming zones, with ample parking and portable toilets on site. One of the best lakes for swimming near Charlotte is Lake Lure. Although it is a 90-minute drive from Charlotte to get there, the journey is worth it. A must-visit spot in Lake Lure is Chimney Rock State Park, where you can climb the spire for a bird’s-eye view of the lake.

One of the biggest attractions of Lake Lure is the sandy beaches surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The beaches are perfect for relaxation, sunbathing, and building sandcastles. Paddle boarding, canoeing, and kayaking facilities are available for visitors. 4. Mountain Island Lake

A charming lake that runs parallel to the Catawba River can be found within a 15-mile drive to the northwest of Uptown Charlotte. Mountain Island Lake is the smallest of the three artificial lakes in the Charlotte area. Belews Lake is an ideal place for swimming and boating. Visitors can also explore the trails around the lake for hiking, biking, and running. Due to the distance from Charlotte, many people choose to spend the entire day or even camp overnight here.
