Heart-Stopping Video Captures an Aggressive Lion Directly Outside a Kitchen Window

Your kitchen is where you brew coffee, look out the window, and prepare your favorite meals. When you peer out, you likely see a yard or a neighbor but for the man in the video at the bottom of the page, it was an angry lion. Somehow, he managed to keep a steady hand throughout while filming!

Are Lions Comfortable Around Humans?

You’ve probably seen videos of lions and humans spending time together, sometimes even in a full embrace. However, it’s important to note that these instances are incredibly rare. Lions in their natural environments are not going to approach a human looking for a cuddle.

They are more likely to show aggression toward humans if they end up too close to one another. Lions are carnivores and if they’re hungry and a human is present, the encounter is likely to be deadly for the human. On the other hand, a lion with cubs may perceive a human as a threat and less as prey.

When Do Lions Mate?

Although many animals only breed during specific seasons, for lions it’s a free-for-all. Although both the females and males are polygamous, the females are usually restricted to the male lions of their pride. During a female’s reproductive cycle, there are about three or four days when they are open to mating.

This special period is active for both males and females — they may copulate up to 50 times in 24 hours! These seemingly excessive acts serve two purposes. The first is to stimulate ovulation and the second is to ensure the male’s fatherhood (without concern for any other males possibly impregnating the female within the same period).

Lion Gets Uncomfortably Close

When the video below starts, the camera is a bit shaky. But the cameraman approaches a building with an open door and large windows. It’s hard to tell what he’s filming at first but it’s a lion’s tail. The man walks into the building to film from inside and you get a better view. The lion stares menacingly. Its roars are chilling and when it lunges forward, it’s heart-stopping!

The lion hisses from the other side of the window, and you can barely make out the female as she runs away in the background. It’s unusual for lions to get that close to buildings and those at the Bhejane Nature Training Camp in the Somkhanda Game Reserve, South Africa do not want these lions thinking it’s okay to show up like that.

They believe that the female you see running away was intelligently using the proximity to humans to try and dissuade the male lion from pursuing her. If her tactic was to distract the male enough for her to escape his presence, it worked. The male lion was determined about getting with the female but when he noticed an approaching human, he moved into defense mode. It appears she did need defending, but not from the human!
