Watch the Harrowing Moment of a Crocodile Launching a Sudden Attack on a Man Walking His Dog

The video at the bottom of this page is hard to watch, especially for dog lovers. Sadly, a man in Australia thought it would be fine to approach the water’s edge with his dog in a crocodile-infested environment. Although the crocodile went for the man at first, it was ultimately the man’s dog that paid with its life.

Where Do Crocodiles Live?

There are American crocodiles that inhabit several spots throughout south Florida and may also be found around Cuba and Jamaica. They dwell along the Caribbean coast that travels from the southern region of Mexico down toward Venezuela. These crocs can also be found along the coasts of Mexico down to Peru. Aside from North and South America, crocodiles can also be found in Africa, Asia, and as you’ll see in the video at the bottom of the page, Australia.

How to Protect Pets in Crocodile-Infested Environments?

Unfortunately, dogs are attractive to crocs, which don’t have any preference when it comes to what they eat. They’re opportunistic, ambushing anything they can snap their jaws on (yes, even humans). Your best bet if you live in a crocodile-laden area is to be wise and take precautions. For instance, if you’re near a water source, remain at the very least five meters from the water’s edge. If you have food or scraps, be sure to dispose of them in a proper area, not where crocs can find them and later come back looking for more.

Crocodiles are most active during certain times of the day, including dawn, dusk, and nighttime. Avoid going out during these times and if you have to be out, be sure to exercise extreme caution. When walking a dog, keep it on a leash and don’t let it get close to the water’s edge. For other pets, like cats, keep them indoors and safe. There is not much defense once a crocodile has snapped its jaws tight so it’s always better to prevent an attack than regret one.

Crocodile Attacks Man and Dog

The video below starts with a warning that the images may be distressing for some viewers. A man in Australia is dressed in only a speedo as he and his dog approach the water’s edge. His dog is not on a leash and follows the man’s lead as he heads toward the water. The man, seemingly unaware of the crocodile’s presence, is ambushed when it snaps onto his leg. The croc takes the man down in one swift motion as the dog watches. The man manages to get away but the croc immediately turns its attention to the dog. The man, badly injured and lucky to be alive, rushes over and repeatedly punches the croc — but sadly, it’s too late for his dog.

Shocking footage shows croc go after man and ultimately pull his dog underwater.
