The Best Swimming Holes In Illinois

It’s easy to locate a place to swim around and appreciate wading in Illinois because there are so many gorgeous city beaches, community pools, and urban waterparks. Perhaps you can pick a spot that’s a little more remote or off the beaten path for your hot summer cool-down sesh. Listed below are some of our favorite swimming sites, which span from breathtakingly man-made to naturally beautiful.

Three Oaks Recreation Area

The City of Crystal Lake salvaged the long-forgotten Vulcan Lakes quarry and turned it into an amazing leisure area. Enjoy the stunning scenery, the clean lakes, and the excellent fishing. Rowboats, canoes, paddle boats, and sailboats can all be rented.

While taking in the breathtaking panorama of the lake and the lakeside islands, think about having a barbecue. While dining on the patio by the lake, make memories at the kid-friendly spray park. Visit a local scuba course in the Scuba Zone to learn about fun scuba diving or to get certified.

Swimming is only authorized while a lifeguard is on patrol in the beach area. Outside of the buoyed area of the beach or when a lifeguard is on duty, swimming is strictly prohibited.

The use of floating devices like rafts, noodles, sofas, water wings, etc. is not permitted. Only life vests that have gained permission from the Coast Guard are allowed. Life jackets are available for free to borrow at the Lake House Complex.

Kinkaid Lake Spillway

Given that the Kinkaid Lake Spillway is somewhat of a local mystery, it makes it reasonable that it would be guarded. They enjoy a little piece of paradise outside of Carbondale. It can be difficult to find, but once you do, you’ll find a charming, three-level waterfall that falls into a cool, clear pool of water.

If you intend to bring children, be aware that the neighborhood may become congested with occasionally rowdy locals throughout the summer. Wear sturdy footwear so you can explore the area and navigate the falls. The rocks can become very jagged.

Centennial Beach

It has been a well-liked swimming area for the neighborhood for more than eight decades, and it is still a great place to spend a warm summer afternoon. Where this pool is located, there used to be two rock quarries there.

Over the years, the pool has undergone numerous renovations. The pool currently has a 6.2 million gallon capacity with a depth range of 0 to 15 feet. All ages are welcome at this beach, which also offers special needs activities, adult floats, swimming lessons, and water exercises.

A season pass can save you money if you regularly visit. The cost of daily entrance ranges from $4 to $14. The ideal spot in the Windy City is Centennial Beach, which has six acres of tree-filled shade and wide-open grassy spaces.

Fish Lake Beach

Visit Fish Lake Beach with the family! Camping in a private RV or tent is a great option for family vacations. Summer dwellings can be utilized on the weekends or from April to October in seasonal locations that can accommodate an RV or park model.

Campers delight in the lake’s exceptional clarity and sand beach. You can fish within the established boundaries of the beach or by utilizing one of the row boats or canoes. Additionally, they hire pedal boats and kayaks.

Bring your own foldable chairs for a dinner at a shaded table or a beach picnic. For snacks, slushies, ice cream, and rentals of paddles, canoes, pedal boats, kayaks, and rowboats, stop by the beach stores at Fish Lake Beach. The restrooms and showers are in the same building as the concessions.
